This, the second instalment in a three-part Vintage Series, is Big Peat 26 Years Old Islay “Vatted” Malt, entitled The Platinum Edition. It is comprised of Islay’s most sought after Single Malts. There will be three consecutive limited edition releases, the first being the 25 Years Old Gold Edition. The series will bring to life the journey of the spirit with each year that passes.
The final release in Douglas Laing’s Big Peat Vintage Trilogy, the Black Edition is a 27-year-old Islay blended malt whisky distilled in 1992. Smoky, salty aromas of bonfires on the beach fill the nose, alongside cookie dough, new leather and floral barley. The palate offers notes of candied citrus, heather honey, oak spice and hints of bacon, before ash, mint and ginger appear in the finish.

The 2020 release of Douglas Laing's annual Big Peat Christmas Edition Islay blended malt is the 10th edition of this festive whisky. Aromas of cedar, barbecued meat and green apple fill the nose, complemented by notes of peppercorn, cool mint and billowing smoke throughout the palate.
Douglas Laing's Big Peat blended malt returns for the celebration of Fèis Ìle 2018! With just 3,000 bottles released, this limited edition bottling sees the marriage of single malts from Islay, including whisky produced at Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen distilleries, bottled at 48% ABV. The expression has been dubbed Big Peat's Pals, and the presentation tube sees 400 of these pals' selfies scattered all over it. A popular guy, Big Peat.
Douglas Laing's Big Peat is a feisty Islay character with a sweet side. This is a small batch bottling, without colouring or chill-filtration and only contains Islay Malt Whiskies, including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and (even the now closed) Port Ellen to name but a few! Big Peat is fresh, salty and clean on the nose, with notes of sweet malts dried over peat. Typically Islay in flavour, the palate carries notes of ash, sweet tar, smoking chimneys and a subtle salty beach quality, with a long and lingering phenolic finish.
This year we have a special one for Mid-Autumn Festival. With notes of sweet toasted marshmallows, peat smoke, honey and charred oak, this bottle pairs perfectly with mooncakes. Be it the Mooncake Festival or not, this should be worthy to be collected.
NOSE - Clean nose, delicate salt and medicinal notes with a background of smoked barley.
TASTE - Immediate chimney smoke that quickly develops into a wild fire smoke. Vanilla notes with citrus and liquorice root.
FINISH - Medium to long finish with dried malt and leaving a lasting impression of that classic Islay peat smoke.
The recipe was created in the garden, using a blend of 13 botanicals including homegrown blackberries, dandelion root and lavender. We took inspiration from these three key ingredient and built our recipe around them.
